Update for MBA Monday Night Competitions
As valued members of the Melbourne basketball community, we would like to share an important update regarding the future management of the Monday Night Competition at MSAC.
As part of a planned transition that has been developing over the past five years, the Monday Night Senior Domestic Competitions at MSAC will now be managed by Melbourne Central Basketball Association (MCBA). This transition reflects a collaboration between Melbourne Basketball Association (MBA) and MCBA, with a shared commitment to providing the best possible community basketball experience for players, teams and officials across Melbourne and Port Phillip.
What does this mean?
The Monday Night Competition will continue to operate at MSAC, with teams registering through MCBA’s PlayHQ platform under the MBA Monday Senior Domestic Competition.
Registrations for the Summer 2026/27 season are now open to the wider basketball community, with teams of all backgrounds welcome to join one of Melbourne’s longest-running and most established senior domestic basketball competitions.
To recognise the significance of transitioning this historic competition into the MCBA community the registration fee for the first season under our operation will be $60 per team. Registrations will close on Thursday September 24th or once all places in the competition have been filled (limited places remaining).
For those already familiar with the competition, they will find it continues with minimal disruption. Games will continue to run as normal, with ongoing oversight from Lindsay Gaze, and many of the familiar faces participants have come to know on Monday nights remaining involved alongside members of the MCBA team.
As part of the collaboration, the competition will operate under MCBA’s Competition By-Laws, which are available on the MCBA website.
Team Sheet Fees
For the Summer 2026/27 season, team sheet fees will align with all other MCBA domestic competitions:
- $85 per game when paid via invoice (full season only, not week to week) or TeamPay.
- $90 per game when paid on the night.
Please note that all team sheet payments will be required electronically, with cash payments no longer accepted on competition nights.
Communications and Support
Throughout this transition, incumber MBA members will continue to receive communications from the MBA team, as well as updates from MCBA relating to competition administration, registrations and important competition information. These communications will come from competitions@mcba.net.au. Both organisations will be working closely together to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for all participants.
Looking Ahead
MCBA is excited to welcome the MBA Monday Night Competition into the broader MCBA basketball community. This collaboration between Melbourne Basketball Association and Melbourne Central Basketball Association will help further strengthen community basketball across Melbourne and Port Phillip, creating additional opportunities for participation, competition and engagement for players of all ages and abilities.
MCBA also wishes to acknowledge the outstanding work of Lindsay Gaze and the Melbourne Basketball Association in building and nurturing this competition over many years. By building on this strong foundation, MCBA is committed to preserving the competition’s strong culture and traditions while ensuring its continued growth and success for future generations of basketball participants.
