Melbourne Central Basketball Association (MCBA) is expanding our senior domestic offerings, and we’re excited to announce that the MSDBA (Spartans Basketball) and Melbourne Basketball Association (MBA) Tuesday and Wednesday night senior domestic competitions at MSAC will now be managed by MCBA as part of a planned transitional process which commenced with an agreement over 3 years ago.

This transition is a collaboration between Spartans, MBA and MCBA (and includes the support of Basketball Victoria and the Victorian government) with the intention of providing the best possible community basketball experience for the Melbourne and Port Phillip area.

Tuesday Night – will continue to run as normal with Men’s and Women’s competitions, whilst keeping the Spartans’ unique characteristic of dedicated scorers. The competition will be named as Spartans Tuesday Senior Domestic, and we will always retain and respect the Spartans history.

Wednesday Night – The Spartans and MBA Wednesday night competitions will now combine into one managed under MCBA, continuing to offer the same grades from both competitions including Men’s, Women’s and Mixed. As we combine the two competitions there will be grading requirements that will occur over the first four weeks of the Winter 2025 competition.

As part of this transition, Tuesday and Wednesday night competitions will now feature an exciting addition we all know and love, Glory League! Players can enjoy full game replays from every game played at MSAC on both nights.

This is an exciting step forward as we continue to grow our association and strengthen our presence at MSAC, ensuring all players, teams, and officials receive the best possible basketball experience. This transitionis also a key milestone in our strategic plan to manage all basketball competitions at MSAC, ensuring a unified and thriving basketball community.

MCBA is looking forward to welcoming all Spartans and MBA members into the MCBA community and with the help of both parties, MCBA are committed to continuing to grow the sport of basketball in all aspects of the game including competitions, officials, programs and pathways for basketballers in the Melbourne and Port Phillip area.

MCBA intend to work closely with the teams at Spartans and MBA (who have both managed their respected competitions for a long time) for continued success and believe the transition will provide minimal changes for teams participating. As the transition continues, we welcome your feedback.
