Melbourne Central Basketball Association (MCBA) is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive basketball community. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational functions of our association and help drive continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
Competitions Management
- Oversee the coordination and delivery of both junior and senior domestic competitions.
- Collaborate with domestic competition stakeholders, including community clubs, through meetings and forums to ensure effective communication and high competition standards.
- Engage with teams, players, coaches, and officials to uphold high standards of sportsmanship and engagement.
- Ensure adequate staffing resources for each nightly competition and manage rostering for competition supervisors and assistant supervisors.
- Work closely with Competition Administrators to ensure smooth scheduling, team registrations, and game day operations.
- Communicate competition matters to all participating members in a timely manner.
- Oversee referee and competition staff payments, ensuring timely weekly processing.
- Manage the growth and development of domestic competitions.
- Develop, maintain, and implement By-Laws, policies, and procedures in consultation with the Operations team, MCBA Board, and relevant committees.
- Ensure alignment with MCBA’s values, policies, codes of conduct, and performance standards.
Staff Operations
- Lead employees and empower them to foster positive change aligned with the Association’s direction.
- Provide leadership, training, and performance feedback to team members.
- Promote a positive and productive team culture in line with MCBA’s values and objectives.
- Address and resolve operational issues promptly and effectively.
- Assist with Child Safety training as required.

- Competitions Administrator
- Competitions Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors
- Association Program Development Officer
- Any other employees as directed by the General Manager
Budget Management
- Accurately manage operational budgets.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to ensure financial sustainability.
- Monitor expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining operational quality.
Complaints Management
- Assist in handling complaints as required.
Commercial Relationships
- Identify and secure sponsorships, partnerships, and strategic alliances with local and national businesses.
- Target sponsors that align with MCBA’s values and goals.
- Draft, review, and negotiate sponsorship agreements in consultation with the General Manager.
- Develop sponsorship categories to grow the sponsorship base.
- Ensure sponsors are integrated into Association activities and receive appropriate recognition.
- Partner effectively with sponsors and stakeholders to contribute to mutual success.
- Successfully apply for grants to support MCBA/Tigers activities.
Other Operational Responsibilities
- Regularly review operational processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Lead the implementation of process improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Stay informed on industry trends, innovations, and best practices to ensure MCBA remains competitive.
- Undertake other duties as required to meet MCBA’s operational needs.
- Work closely with Melbourne Central Basketball operations team.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience in operations management, ideally in a sporting or community-based organisation.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in team management and development.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Experience in sponsorship acquisition.
- Knowledge of basketball operations, competitions, and governance is desirable.
- Passion for community sport and alignment with MCBA’s values and vision.
